Henrik Stenson is at home in Sweden this week for the Nordea Masters on the European Tour. The event returns to the Bro Hof Slott Golf Course for the first time since 2013.
The 40-year-old is playing on the tour for the first time since the Dubai Desert Classic and will hope recent results do not continue in front of his home crowd. The world number eight has endured missed cuts in his last two outings, which came at the Wells Fargo Championship and Players Championship. The four-time PGA Tour winner will look to challenge for a title on home soil.
His record at the Nordea Masters is good, with his best showings being two runners-up finishes in 2004 and 2005. He came fifth in 2014 and backed it up with a tie for 13th last year. This is his ninth appearance at the event since joining the European Tour back in 2001 although he has not been a frequent visitor to the tournament.
The nine-time European winner’s season has been impressive. He has yet to taste victory, but has recorded five top-10s, including two runner-up finishes and two ties for third. The hope will be that the home crowd will give him that extra support and push him over the line to victory.
The ‘Super Swede’ will face competition from a host of Scandinavian golfers. The field includes two-time winners Mikko Ilonen and Alexander Noren, the latter of whom is the defending champion.
Stenson will also have to look out for Ryder Cup teammate Lee Westwood, who has won the event three times in the past. There is an undoubtedly strong field assembled in Sweden this week and Stenson will have to be on top of his game to win the title come Sunday.
