Thomas Aiken broke par for the third day in a row at Wentworth Club with his Saturday round of 70, which earned him a share of fifth place going into the weekend of the BMW PGA Championship.
The three-time European Tour winner made five birdies and one bogey during his third round to reach the 54-hole mark on six-under-par, two shots behind Australian Scott Hend.
‘It’s a challenging golf course,’ said Aiken. ‘I’m very pleased with the way that I’ve played. And we’ve been blessed with some awesome weather here in the UK.’
‘If everything falls into place tomorrow and I put a really low one in there, then we’ll see what happens,’ he added.
The 2014 Sunshine Tour Order of Merit winner has been competing in the United States this year, but returned to compete in England this week at the European flagship event.
‘I got my PGA Tour card last year and it’s been a change. New golf courses every week, so it’s like starting again. It’s good to be back here, on a tour where I’ve played for a decade,’ he said.
Hend eagled the 18th to reach nine-under-par and held a one-shot lead over Tyrrell Hatton, while Lee Westwood and YE Yang were a further shot behind and shared third place.
‘To make eagle on 18 was very fortunate,’ said Hend. ‘There are a lot of guys up there and it will be pretty competitive tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it.’
