A day to remember for Kaleigh

South Africa’s lone representative at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Kaleigh Telfer, signed off in style with a closing 71.

Unfortunately for Telfer, her bid to win the inaugural championship came unstuck in round two, but she showed her class in the historic trip around the famed course.

The Auburn University star was one of eight to break par, with only three rounds better than her effort.

She didn’t have it easy as she arrived on the par-5 eighth tee two-over par. A birdie there was backed up by another as she moved back to par for the round.

Bogey at 10 and 12 again left her with work to do. but she fought back with birdies at both of the back nine’s par-5s before a birdie at 17 saw her dip into red numbers.

A par at the last helped Telfer into a share of 12th.

The United States celebrated the first-ever event on one of golf’s most hallowed arenas with a win as Jennifer Kupcho closed with a superb 67 to win by five.
