Masters champion Danny Willett is back home this week for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club.The Englishman has had a stellar season and will hope his first tournament on home soil this year will be one to remember.
The five-time European Tour winner broke into the top 10 in the world on the back of his Masters title, coupled with his win at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The 28-year-old has two further top-five finishes and three more top-30s to his name.
The Lindrick Golf Club pro has played ten tournaments this season and did not miss a cut until three weeks ago at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. He rebounded last week with opening rounds of 65 and 71 to be well placed at the Irish Open going into the weekend. Rounds of 74 and 77 dashed his hopes and he eventually finished 11 shots of the pace.
Willett arrives at Wentworth Club as the top-ranked player in the field and is the bookies favourite to claim the title. Willett’s best performances to date at the BMW PGA Championship came back in 2010 where he finished alone in fifth place, which is his only top-30 performance at the venue.
The world number nine is likely to face his stiffest competition from defending champion Byeong Hun An, Lee Westwood, Shane Lowry and two-time winner Luke Donald.
