The Approach S6 is the first of its kind GPS that we have seen and is extremely light weight to the point that you actually do not feel like you are wearing a watch, rather a band around your wrist. A comfortable fit, just ensure you wearing this on your leading arm when accessing the other functions that this product provides. Besides being a straight forward looking sports watch that we’ve come to expect from Garmin, the GPS gives you a colour full aerial view.
Similar to the Approach G8 the Approach 6S also has location access to 30 000 courses world wide and a variety of functions that include hole information, layup info for those doglegs and water holes, a display pointer (incase you lost in the rough and cannot see which way the green is) and the function of linking up to you smart phone to deliver messages directly to your device. Included is PinPointer which can measure the distance of your shots, so when you hit those big bombers off the tee you can measure precisely how long that shot was so you don’t end up second guessing yourself . Additional functions like keeping score and tracking your statistics are everything you need to help improve your game. Lastly is the SwingStrength and TempoTraining functions that will help you create that consistent golf swing we all strive to achieve.
When playing on the course the touch screen technology of this device allows you to pin point the exact distance of the required shot where you want to land your ball and with approaches to the green, the view automatically changes to give you an aerial shot. Like the Approach G8, distances are measured to the front, middle and back of the green.
Without failure Garmin have taken GPS watches to the next level by incorporating the two functions SwingStrength and TempoTraining. As amateurs we struggle with consistently hitting the ball with the same power, hence the reason some shots on an even surface struck the same way, go different distances. SwingStrength will help you gauge what distances you actually hit your clubs and at what percentage of strength you are using. The pro’s know this and have got a club in the back for every occasion, so why shouldn’t we. The TempoTrainer has 6 different timings depending on your swing speed. This function can help you train the right tempo into your swing so on a day when you not warming up before the game and have your device on, you can set up your TempoTrainer and swing the club until you have found your groove before the first tee shot. Very helpful when a range is not accessible before your game.
With all these functions one could easily get caught up in thinking you need to be a rocket scientists to operate this device, however nothing could be further from the truth. Simple straight forward usability allowed us to dive straight in without reading any instructions, of course the instructions reiterate the value of this product and with a price tag of R 7 299 not only do you get a reliable watch but a product that will add extreme value to your next game of golf.
