Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat returns to Genzon Golf Club to defend his Shenzhen International title this week.
‘I’ve been looking forward to coming here and defending my title. This week a lot of top players have come over and it’s a tough field. Everyone is aiming for the same target, but I’m ready,’ he said.
The 26-year-old beat China’s Li Hao-Tong in a playoff last year to claim his third European Tour victory. After his recent tied-15th finish at The Masters he’s keen retain the Shenzhen title.
‘The way I’ve performed over the last few weeks was good,’ said Aphibarnrat. ‘I’ve been striking the ball well and playing smart golf. I’ve got good memories this week, so it should be tough for the others to take the title away for me.’
Standing in his way is Bubba Watson, who won the WGC-HSBC Champions at Sheshan International Golf Club in 2014. The world number four is well rested after a week off and he’s keen to win for a second time on Chinese soil.
‘It’s a tough test, but hopefully I’m prepared this year. Hopefully I have a shot on Sunday to win,’ said the two-time Masters champion.
The South African charge will be led by multiple European Tour winners Hennie Otto and Darren Fichardt, joined by countrymen Trevor Fisher Jnr, Haydn Porteous, and Brandon Stone.
