Rickie Fowler enters the Dell Technologies Championship in sixth place in the FedExCup standings as he eyes a run at the $10-million jackpot at East Lake.

    PREVIEW: Dell Technologies Championship

Fowler was nicely poised for a run at the Northern Trust last week, but a third-round 74 derailed his progress as he moved from fifth to sixth in the standings.

‘I think the ultimate goal is to make sure that we’re inside the top five going into Atlanta, so we can kind of control our own destiny there,’ Fowler said ahead of this week’s second playoff event.

‘Ultimately, we like to continue to play well. Get ourselves a win to make sure that we’re really inside of that, and potentially near the top. The higher you can get, the better chance you have at Atlanta.’

The world No 10 is in a confident mood this week as he returns to TPC Boston, where he won the Deutsche Bank Championship in 2015.

‘I definitely think, versus last week, playing a place we haven’t played before; coming here, where we’ve had a handful of tournaments, and to have won here, coming in here with a lot more confidence knowing that we can play well here.

‘So relaxed and confident, with the way I’ve been playing this year; consistent and kind of doing well all throughout the game. You know, nothing’s necessarily struggled. Everything’s been pretty solid.

‘But like I said, yeah, it’s nice to have that little extra confidence, and being relaxed, as well, knowing that we can go play well here.’

Fowler will be hoping to join Vijay Singh(2008), Henrik Stenson (2013) and Rory McIlroy (2016) as winners of the Dell Technologies who have gone on to win the FedExCup at East Lake.
