Louis Oosthuizen is primed for a big week at the Shell Houston Open after finishing second at the WGC-Dell Match Play on Sunday.
The world number 11 has three top-20s at the Golf Club of Houston, including a solo-third result in 2012, so he’s no stranger to the course.
In the match play last week he beat Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson on his way to the final against Jason Day, who won.
Oosthuizen is in the hunt for a green jacket at the 80th edition of The Masters, and this week’s tournament is the last chance to hone his game before arriving at Augusta National.
The 2010 Open Champ is full of self-belief, as he proved by reaching the match play final unbeaten. His pure swing, often regarded as the best in the world, has led to him ranking 12th in strokes gained: tee-to-green on the PGA Tour this season. He is also seventh in putts from five feet, making 93 percent of those shots.
The statistics indicate that all aspects of Oosthuizen’s game are solid , which makes him a favourite in Houston. The 33-year-old has made 10 consecutive cuts in the 2015/16 PGA Tour season, so he’s very likely to play the weekend. What he does from there is yet to be seen, but expect fireworks.
