Jordan Spieth moved past Rory McIlory into third place, following his dramatic playoff win at the Travelers Championship, writes WADE PRETORIUS.
The win also ensured that Spieth joined Tiger Woods as the only players in the post-WWII era with 10 wins to their name by the age of 24.
Spieth moved to fourth in the FedExCup standings, and third behind Dustin Johnson and US Open runner-up Hideki Matsuyama. Rory McIlroy, who finished T17 after a Sunday 64, is now fourth on the list, with Jason Day and Sergio Garcia behind him. The Northern Irishman continues to tinker with his putter and put a third flatstick in as many days in his bag yesterday.
Garcia failed in his ninth try to win the BMW International Open as he made a late bogey to allow Argentina’s Andres Romero to re-enter the winner’s circle 10 years after his maiden venture.
Germany was kind to Hennie Otto – the big mover from a South African perspective, as he went from to 894 to 602. He finished inside the top 10, with Dylan Frittelli, George Coetzee, Jaco Van Zyl and Trevor Fisher Jnr all inside the top 20 in Munich. Unfortunately, there were no great gains outside of Otto’s feat, with SA’s leading trio all dropping down this week.
