South African Dylan Frittelli is excited by the prospect of getting over the line at the Lyoness Open after an impressive 68 on Saturday, writes WADE PRETORIUS.

Frittelli is firmly in contention in Austria, after rounds of 70, 71 and a Saturday 68 saw him close the gap to two off leader Felipe Aguilar, who could only manage a 72 on moving day.

‘The front nine was a little tricky because of the overnight rains, but I managed to handle it okay,’ Frittelli told Compleat Golfer after his third round.

Frittelli and compatriot Jbe Kruger, who is one shot further back, went the lowest of the top six names on the leaderboard after getting to grips with conditions at the Diamond Country Club.

‘I got used to it on the back nine and started to hit my approach shots close. I birdie one par five and made a nice birdie on 17. I was happy with my round, it was nice and consistent out there.

‘My only bogey was with a three putt, so it was pretty solid off the tee and into the greens.’

Having gone close at the Shenzhen International and Volvo China Open earlier in the season, Frittelli is excited by the prospect that a good final round will see him claim his maiden European Tour win.

‘I am really excited. I hope to play well and be consistent and get that first win of the season.’

The 27-year-old won two events on the Challenge Tour before moving on to the European Tour, where he is 25th in the Race to Dubai standings.
