The final qualifying event for the Compleat Golfer 5-Star Series took place at a blustery Pearl Valley Golf Estate.
Carting off the big prize and a spot in the final, to be played at San Lameer at the end of October, were Alexander Kotze and Marius de Bruyn. They won the betterball competition, holding off Rob Larsen and Donovan Liddecoat, and now join the previous winners and runners-up at the South Coast resort course.
As we’ve come to expect, ‘The Pearl’ was in magnificent condition and Damian Wrigley, the general manager at Pearl Valley, and his team ensured that the day was an overwhelming success. The swirling wind didn’t allow for high scoring but those who managed to tame the elements were well rewarded.
The day started with Magic 828 Music Radio providing the music as players tried out TaylorMade putters
and guessed the distance to a well-placed flag in an attempt to win a Bushnell Phantom Rangefinder.
For the second time in the series, the pros were outplayed by one of South Africa’s rising amateur stars, Luca Filippi, who pipped Hennie O’Kennedy to the individual strokeplay crown.
The three-ball alliance was won by Larsen, Liddecot and Team Compleat’s own Paul Stubbs, and the prize for most golf went to the breakfast team from Magic 828, Guy McDonald and Brandon Baatjies.
The players were treated to an incredible day, and the magnificent goodie bags included Under Armour shirts, caps from TaylorMade and the unique ball-fitting experience with Srixon.
The event also saw new sponsors Windhoek Lager and Cape Town Gin bringing a fresh element to the day and after-play function. Compleat Golfer would like to thank Srixon, Duca Del Cosma, TaylorMade, Bushnell, Windhoek Lager, Puma, Cobra, Cape Town Gin Co, Reuzel and Pro Skin, as well as the team from
Pearl Valley for ensuring a perfect day was had by all.
